Measurements that matter for moving
- Depth and height decide whether it goes through a door carried flat: the smaller of the two must be less than the door’s clear width.
- Diagonal depth decides whether it tilts through. Many deep sofas only get in this way.
- Length decides whether it can turn from a hallway or up a staircase.

How much room does a sofa need?
- 40–50 cm (16–20 in) between the sofa and the coffee table.
- 75–90 cm (30–36 in) for a walkway behind or beside it.
- A TV viewing distance of roughly 1.5–2.5 times the screen size: about 1.6–2.7 m (5′ 3″–8′ 11″) for a 43 in TV, or 2.1–3.5 m (6′ 11″–11′ 6″) for a 55 in.
