Space for the chair
- Leave 90–110 cm (35–43 in) behind the desk for an office chair to roll back and for you to get up.
- A typical office chair takes about 65 × 65 cm (26 × 26 in) of floor.
- A desk facing a wall in a bedroom needs about 1.6–1.8 m (5′ 3″–5′ 11″) from that wall to the next obstacle.
Monitor depth
Your eyes should be roughly an arm’s length, 50–75 cm (20–30 in), from the screen. With a monitor on a stand, a 60 cm (24 in) deep desk is the practical minimum; 70–80 cm (28–31 in) is more comfortable for large or multiple screens.
